This weekend, it was so gusty, that i decided to search my older GoPro Files and put together a nice compilation.
Feel free to comment, as i always want to get better and better in cutting those videos.
This sunday we were in “Borgholzhausen” and found a nice spot to fly.
We definitely have to visit some mountains in the future.

Now i’m back with some results.
The weather wasn’t really good (very overclouded), but i did not tried to break my personal range record, i just wanted to compare my 10turn helical and the new circular-wireless 7,5turn helical.
In theory, the 10turn should outperform the 7,5turn, of course.
2xFoxtech RC305 connected to Eagle Tree Diversity
1x Foxtech 200mW 5.8GHz Tx with SPW (not from circular-wireless.com).
During the flight, my buddy covered one of the antennas, so the diversity switched to the one, i wanted to test (and back).
I did two flights. At the first flight, antenna 1 was connected to Rx1 and antenna 2 connected to Rx2.
In the second flight i switched antenna 1 to Rx 2 and antenna 2 to Rx 1.
So i could tell, if any difference was caused by a bad performing Rx.
The picture looks much worse in those still images…in my goggles it was pretty flyable 🙂
The first steps of color noise were exactly the same with both antennas, but as range increased (and noise), the circular-wireless helical starts to outperform my 10turn Helical more and more.
I think i might get even more range, when i switch my Tx SPW to one of sircanas fine tuned SPWs.
Big thanks to sircana, for offering those nice antennas!
When the SPW is getting cheaper and may be available with RP-SMA adapters, i will order one of those, as well
With my 10turn Helical, i went out 6.1km with a lot of noise in the picture…so on a better day, i think i will reach 7km or 8km with the antennas from circular-wireless.
As we always try to improve our equipment, i already tried 3 different Tx antennas (2x Cloverleaf made by chipsundgrips, 1x SPW made by todibi).
All came up with almost identical results (~5-6km on a calm day with Foxtech 200mW 5G8 equip).
So i decided, that maybe the receiver antenna is limiting my range.
At the moment i use a 10 turn helical from chipsundgrips. Although 10 turns is pretty much, i saw some people that reached over 7km with even a better picture by using only 6 turn helicals.
Circular-Wireless.com has some state of the art antennas and they are not only good looking…they are measured and tweaked as well.
So in a few days my new helical will arrive and then i will compare my range and picture quality with the 10 turn helical, that i am still using.
