The new Hero 4 Session is announced by GoPro and it comes in a new, interesting form-factor.
This formfactor is only new for the GoPro lineup, as other companies like SJCam and Polaroid already released cameras with the same form-factor years ago.
Is it any good?
In my opinion the only good aspect about it is the slim, compact form-factor. The “lighter” weight is only relevant if you compare the Hero 4 Session with a Hero 3 / 4 silver/black in its water proofed housing. Back when I used GoPros on my planes/copters, I preferred to mount them without the protective water housing, as it adds a lot of extra weight to the FPV platform (of course it also protects the lens+cam).
Biggest downsides / fails of the Hero 4 Session:
- non-removable battery
- high price (exactly the same price, as the Hero 4 silver)
- much worse image quality (compared to the Hero 4 silver)
Maybe you want to see the difference in image quality between the Hero 4 Session and the Hero 4 silver for your self.
The video below reviews the new GoPro, compares it to the Hero 4 silver and comes to the same conclusion, that I do (don’t buy it!).
