Long time no see….and yes, we were not flying for more than 2 years now.
Here is a list of reason:
- Leo moved (further away), so spontaneous fly-outs after work are not possible
- over the years we got picky (concerning weather and locations), so we were no longer interested in flying on gusty days or on a location where we could not do some decent range low level chasing
- FPV regulations got tighter
- on more and more locations, people are annoyed of the loud flying wings and they wanted us to leave
This year, I saw some inspiring videos from some amazing freestyle copter pilots and back in the days, when we also were flying copters, the hardware was pretty much “shit” compared to the stuff, that you can buy now. Even micro quads (2-3 inch propellers with less then 250g total weight including battery) seem to be much fun and thanks to the Runcam Split Mini, it’s possible to capture the flight in HD.
So ~5 weekas agot I bought a FlexRC Zeus 2.5 quad with Runcam Split mini and started practicing.
To be honest, I never did a flip/roll or any freestyle move with a multirotor in my life, so it will be a long journey, until I achieve the smooth freestyle flying skills, but it’s fun.
Leo hopped on the same train, so we both fly mini quads now and soon, I’ll also buy a 5 inch quad.
That means, we still won’t deliver flying wing chase footage, but we still got our wings, so never say never 😉
At least we get back into the hobby and we enjoy it so far.
So DSC Season 5 has started 😉
